3-8 Coquimbo, Chile

Thank goodness We set an alarm last night.    We were both fast asleep when it went off at 7:30.   We have two hours for our tour meeting time.  Today we’re headed to the enchanted Valley where we will have a Chilean lunch, view petroglyphs estimated to be over 2600 years old,   And what else?   Wine tasting!!!!

So at 9:30 we’re lined up with our group in the Princess Theater.  And by 10 we’re heading south to the valley and being rocked to sleep while our guide fills us in on the history and current state of this area of Chile.

Our first stop is at a panoramic restaurant where we are served a delicious vegetable salad with Avocado. The fruits and vegetables are so good down here.  The main meal consisted of rice and a big chunk of beef roast that was absolutely delicious. So tender it just fell apart. The only thing missing was some ketchup!  And of course lunch was washed down by Pisco sours, white or red wine.  It was our choice.

After lunch we’re back on the bus and headed toward the petroglyph park. In the park the bus heads down a narrow, winding road and for the next hour we walk the same valley the native Xxxx did thousands of years ago.  It’s hot as we work our way amongst the rocks and view the pita just and petroglyphs wondering what the true meaning of these stone carvings really are.

Sixty minutes later we’re back on the bus heading to our last Chilean winery of this trip.  Tabali does not disappoint.  It’s a fun tour and one more time we listen to the vine to bottle process. And then we’re rewarded with the wine tasting.  Knowing this is our final Chilean wine stop we purchase 6 bottles.  I’m feeling a bit like a lush until the last couple on the bus walks in with 12 bottles.  I need to get his cabin number!!

We’re back in the bus by 4 and heading back to the ship. The ride back was quiet.  Most of us were sleeping.  The walking, food and wine did us in.  And now the swaying of the bus helped us all dose off for a portion of the ride.  We arrive at the port around 5:15 and head up to the room.  Unloading our wine packages, we clean up a bit and rest our feet.  The ship sets sail around 7 pm.

Shortly after we head down to the dining room where we meet Pat & Dean.  The four of us have dinner over one of our newly purchased bottles of wine.  Before we know it, it's after 9 and all four of us are yawing.  It's time to give in and go to bed.

What a fun day made better by good friends!
